Zelle® / Frequently asked questions

No—Zelle® is free to use through Associated Bank Digital.

As an Associated Bank customer, you can enroll in and use Zelle® directly from Associated Bank Digital. Click on “Send Money with Zelle®” and follow the steps.

Yes. When you sign in to Associated Bank Digital to send money using Zelle®, your transactions are covered by our Digital Banking Security Guarantee. Keeping your money and information safe is Associated Bank's top priority. When you use Zelle within our digital banking, your information is protected with the same technology we use to keep your bank account safe.

Sign in to Associated Bank Digital. In the mobile app, you can either select “Transfer & Pay” or access Zelle® from the Quick Access button. In online banking, select “Send money with Zelle®.” Add or select one of your trusted recipients and enter payment amount. Select a "From" account for the payment. Then click "Review" and "Send. "

The recipient will receive an email or text message with the details of your payment and instructions on how to enroll to receive payment if they are not already enrolled. You may want to let the recipient know in advance, so they can enroll with Zelle if they haven't used it before.

If you’ve enrolled with Zelle®, the money will be sent—typically within minutes—directly into the bank account associated with the email address or U.S. mobile number used when you set up Zelle®.

If you don't know the person or aren't sure you’ll get what you paid for (such as items bought from an online bidding or sales site), don’t use Zelle® to make these types of transactions.

These potentially high-risk transactions are just like sending cash to a person you don't know. Neither Associated Bank nor Zelle® offers a protection program for any authorized payments made with Zelle—for example, if you don’t receive the item you paid for, or the item isn’t as described or as you expected.

Money sent with Zelle® is typically available to an enrolled person within minutes.

If your recipient isn't enrolled with Zelle®, they’ll receive a notification prompting them to enroll so they can get the money directly into their account. After this first payment has been completed, the recipient will be able to get future payments faster.

If your payment is still pending, confirm that the person you sent money to has enrolled with Zelle® and that you entered the correct email address or U.S. mobile phone number.

If you're waiting to receive money, you should check to see if you've received a payment notification via email or text message. If you haven't received a payment notification, we recommend following up with the sender to confirm they entered your email address or U.S. mobile phone number correctly.

Sign in to Associated Bank Digital. Click "Send Money with Zelle®," and then click "Activity." If the payment is listed as "Pending," the recipient has not yet enrolled in Zelle® and has not received the money. If the payment is listed as "Completed," the money should appear in their account.

Even if the recipient doesn’t use a bank that offers Zelle®, they can download the Zelle® app and enroll with basic contact information, an email address and U.S. mobile number, as well as a Visa® or Mastercard® debit card with a U.S.-based account (not including U.S. territories). Zelle® does not accept debit cards associated with international deposit accounts or any credit cards.

Yes, the recipient has 14 days from the date they receive the payment notification to enroll to receive the money you sent. When a Zelle® payment expires, the funds are returned to the sender.
