Small Business All-Star: Twisted Plants
“We noticed a shortage of vegan food options when we dined out,” Brandon explained. “That’s what inspired us to start Twisted Plants
The seeds of Twisted Plants—a Cudahy-based restaurant offering delicious vegan food— were planted when co-owner Arielle Hawthorne was diagnosed with lymphoma. Arielle and Brandon Hawthorne began researching the effect of food on health and decided to switch to a vegan diet.
“We noticed a shortage of vegan food options when we dined out,” Brandon explained. “That’s what inspired us to start Twisted Plants.”
Twisted Plants serves comfort food without using animal products. “Our customers love that they can eat delicious food without compromising their beliefs,” Brandon said.

Twisted Plants connected with the Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corporation (WWBIC), which loaned them money to support their business. In 2021, they received additional support with a $5,000 grant from Associated Bank and Brewers Community Foundation.
“Associated Bank helped in our business journey by providing an extra boost of resources to help with employee retention.”
