Equity Indexed Annuities

Tie the interest rate of your annuity to a specific stock market index while still enjoying the security of a minimum guaranteed return. Equity indexed annuities offer you guaranteed principal if held to maturity, with the potential to increase your investment earnings.*

During the build-up phase of the annuity, you make one single payment or a series of payments, earning interest at a rate based on the specified index. The value of your account will fluctuate, based on changes in the market. You pay no taxes on any earnings until the second phase of the annuity, when you begin receiving payments or if you make any withdrawals/distributions. That tax-deferral helps your savings grow.

Combined with an income rider, an equity indexed annuity offers these features and risks*:

  • Guaranteed minimum interest rate
  • Credited gains cannot be lost
  • No taxes on earnings until you begin receiving payments
  • Funds may be withdrawn, though restrictions, fees and taxes may apply
  • No annual fees (other than the cost of the rider, depending on the carrier)
  • Guaranteed income that you (or you and your spouse) cannot outlive

Equity Indexed Annuities are subject to surrender charges. Also, an equity index annuity owner may not fully participate in gains experienced by the linked index because the interest earned will be subject to a cap or ceiling.

The contract value may not grow like a fixed rate annuity. The annual rate paid by the contract may be as low as zero, depending on the performance of the underlying index, and subject to contract guaranteed minimums as to returns of premium and interest rate.

If the equity indexed annuity is a registered security, information will be included in the prospectus. Consider the investment objectives, risks, and charges and expenses of the annuity and the underlying index to which the interest rate is linked before investing. The prospectus and, if available, the summary prospectus contain this and other information about the annuity contract, the underlying index and how it relates to the interest rate payable. The prospectus and, if available, the summary prospectus are available from your financial consultant or by calling Associated Investment Servicesat 800-595-7722. The prospectus and, if available, the summary prospectus should be read carefully before investing.

Equity indexed annuities are long-term investment vehicles designed for retirement purposes. You can not invest directly in an index, including any used by the insurer to determine rates paid on the investment in the contract. Indexed annuities are subject to rate caps and participation percentages, also more fully described in the contract and, where applicable, the prospectus.
