Making Hiring Events Work For You
Career Fairs, Job Fairs, Hiring Events, Career Expos…the list goes on and on. Whether they are held on-site at the company’s facilities, off-site or even in a large group setting, these events can be great resources if you know how to use them.
| 1. | Read the ad carefully. The advertisements are usually good sources of information. Not only will you find out times, dates and locations, but also information on which organization representatives will be available and whether or not there will be on-the-spot interviews or even hiring. | |
| 2. | Bring copies of your resume. No matter what the format of the event, you should always have copies of your resume on hand. That way, if you have the opportunity to meet with a hiring manager or department leadership, you can leave your resume behind for consideration. | |
| 3. | Dress the part. Even though this is a group event with many people wandering in and out, you still want to dress professionally and make an impression. | |
| 4. | Take the time to talk with representatives. At most events, representatives from the various departments are onsite to speak with attendees. These people are valuable resources for information about the culture and opportunities available within an organization. | |
| 5. | Gather information. Most organizations will also have brochures, flyers and information sheets available. These can be excellent sources of information on the organization and its benefits. | |
| 6. | Have a plan. At large group hiring events, finding an employer you’re interested in can be a bit daunting. Most of these events have a map or information sheet on the various participants and their locations. Take a few moments to locate those organizations you would most like to meet with and work from there. |

We can help you make the most of every dollar to plan for the future you want.
